Procedure Spotlight: Brachioplasty

A Brachioplasty, often referred to as an arm lift, can be a confusing idea for some patients. How does an arm lift work, and why might it be necessary? Today, we’re placing this surgery into our Procedure Spotlight so we can dive a bit deeper into what it entails and why many patients choose to have it performed.

In an arm lift procedure, the general process consists of removing the excess tissue from the upper arm that over time can begin to sag due to age, weight, and gravity, and then tightening the tissue left behind. The surgery is unique to each patient, as Dr. Zannis’ approach will depend on the amount of skin in this area and how loose the tissue may have become over time. The incision for a Brachioplasty is carefully placed under the arm so it is easily obscured as it heals and allows for the tissue to be taut once it is tightened properly.

Brachioplasty for Bariatric Patients

For bariatric patients who have undergone previous surgeries such as a gastric bypass or gastric band, there is often excess skin left behind after a major weight loss that can appear loose and become a hindrance to everyday activities. Arm lifts, for this reason, are often helpful after a bariatric procedure because it is a great way to effectively remove the loose or sagging skin from around the arms to create a more youthful appearance.

Regain A Youthful Look With An Arm Lift Procedure in New Bern, NC

Since an arm lift involves making an incision beneath your upper arm, patients are advised to take off at least 2-3 weeks of work and to not lift any heavy objects that could cause issues for 2-6 weeks post-surgery. The most important part of your recovery process is to rest and let your incisions heal properly with compression bands that we will secure after surgery. For your comfort, we advise that you use soft pillows to elevate your arms while you rest.

Overall, the recovery period for a Brachioplasty is not extensive, and afterwards, you will notice a significant difference in the appearance of your arms. If you believe that you are an ideal candidate for an arm lift, you can contact our office at (252) 633-1197 or fill out our form to request a consultation. We look forward to hearing from you.
