If you are bothered by wrinkles, saggy skin of the jowls and neck, or other signs of aging in your face, you may consider a facelift. A facelift is a tried-and-true surgical procedure meant to improve the visible signs of aging and the effects of gravity in the face and neck.

Before and After Photos

At the Zannis Center for Plastic Surgery in New Bern, NC, we specialize in performing facelift procedures for our patients to help them turn back the clock and feel more confident about their appearance.

Dr. Zannis is a highly experienced and world-renowned plastic surgeon who is capable of using expert facelift surgeries to address many common causes of an aging facial appearance, such as:

  • Wrinkles between the nose and mouth,
  • Deep creases below the lower eyelids,
  • Fat that has fallen or is saggy,
  • Descent of the midface or cheekbone area,
  • Loss of muscle tone in the lower face that may create jowls, and
  • Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw.

A facelift is designed to correct all of these aging features, restoring a more youthful, rested appearance with uplifted contours and improved tone in facial skin and underlying muscle.

Dr. Zannis always aims for the most natural-looking result that restores a normal youthful look and gives our patients a renewed feeling of self-confidence and youthful vigor.

Procedure

Typical incisions for a facelift surgery begin at the hairline above the temple, continuing along or just inside the ear, and ending behind the ear. This allows access to tightened underlying tissue, enables us to remove excess fat, and helps reduce sagging skin.

A second incision under the chin is sometimes necessary. If skin tone is good and only mid-face aging or excess fat in the neck will be corrected, abbreviated techniques with shorter incisions may be used. Liposuction techniques may also be recommended to assist with the removal of excess fat deposits.

An alternative to the traditional facelift is the MACS-lift, which is short for “minimal-access cranial suspension. This variation of the classic facelift has fewer incisions, and incisions typically do not extend behind the ear.

For patients requiring mostly a vertical lift, this is an excellent alternative with less recovery time and quick results.

A facelift is also commonly performed in conjunction with an eyelid or brow lift as well as other adjunct procedures, such as fat grafting or dermabrasion to the upper lip lines.

Our plastic surgery experts will be happy to discuss your goals with you to determine the best course of action to help achieve your desired appearance.

Results & Recovery

Following your facelift procedure, swelling and bruising should subside within 2 to 4 weeks. Final results may be apparent in as few as 1 to 2 months. Incision lines will continue to refine and fade in appearance for 1 year after your surgery.
